Who We Are
Sacramento River fishing guides since 2001.
Mike's Guide Service is based in Penn Valley, California (Nevada County) and has proudly provided the ultimate Northern California salmon, bass, and striper fishing experience since 2001.
Our approach
We believe great Northern California fishing should be feasible for everyone — first-timers, families, and seasoned anglers alike. That's why every trip includes the boat, all tackle, all bait, ice for your catch, and Mike's local knowledge. The only thing we ask you to bring is a current California fishing license.
Where we fish
Our home water is the Sacramento River, one of the great salmon fisheries in the country. Depending on season and target species, we'll fish the lower river, the Delta, or upstream sections — wherever the bite is strongest that week.
- King Salmon — Sacramento River, July through December. Fish range from 10 to 60 pounds.
- Striper — Sacramento Delta and lower river, April through June.
- Bass — Delta and Northern California reservoirs, year-round.
What you'll need
- A valid California fishing license
- Weather-appropriate clothing (layers — mornings on the river are cold even in summer)
- Sun protection: hat, sunglasses, sunscreen
- Food and drink for the day
- A small cooler if you plan to take fish home
